“[Jody] Briskey's is a signature performance that should not be missed. She has channeled Garland with all the breathy phrasing, the quavery voice, the tremulous upper lip and nervous energy... Deeper, though, Briskey seems to die a little with each song. This abiding commitment reaches its zenith in 'Swanee,' which is nothing less than a reckless and astonishing display of ragged emotion and vocal power that stops the show.”
"This show is a must-see for Garland fans and also for those unfamiliar with her"
Jody Briskey reprises her role as Judy Garland in this musical, which was a big hit for the History Theatre in 2005. The show, written by William Randall Beard, uses Garland's landmark 1961 Carnegie Hall concert as a jumping-off point to tell the story of little Frances Gumm from Grand Rapids, Minn. Since the 2005 premiere, "Beyond the Rainbow" has had quite a few productions around the country. While Briskey sings many of Garland's great hits, Norah Long plays young Judy in the dramatic scenes. David Lohman arranged the music. Freelance critic Lisa Brock called the earlier History Theatre production "stunning."

“I work from my gut, and she was the same way: raw and real,” Briskey says. “Listening to her, you can feel what was going on with her.”
