Christmas of Swing

by Bob Beverage with Ron Peluso, Jan Puffer, and David Lohman
music arranged by David Lohman

It's Christmas Eve of 1944 and The Andrews Sisters are preparing to lift the spirits of the troops on the front lines along with their pals Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Abbott & Costello, and Santa! Christmas of Swing is a joyful celebration of music, family, and patriotism featuring real letters from WWII soldiers, and favorite swing versions of holiday songs such as "Let It Snow," "Christmas in Killarney," and "Mele Kalikimmaka." Share some holiday cheer with the girls from Minnesota who grew up to become the sweethearts of WWII. This musical reimagining of the Andrews Sisters' USO show is a treat for the whole family – from the newest generation to the Greatest Generation and everyone in between.

  • Directed by Jan Puffer and Ron Peluso
  • Choreography by Jan Puffer
  • Musical Direction by Raymond Berg
  • Ruthie Baker as Patty Andrews
  • Jen Burleigh-Bentz as LaVerne Andrews
  • Stacey Lindell as Maxene Andrews
  • Raymond Berg as Vic
  • Mark Rosenwinkel as Lou Levy, Lou Costello and Danny Kaye
  • Bill Sharpen as Bing Crosby and others.

"We're saying that we don't want to sit safely stateside anymore. Not while those brave boys are over there risking their lives for us. Get us over there, where we can really make a difference."
– Maxene, Patty, and LaVerne Andrews

The Andrews Sisters are best remembered for their deep commitment to the U.S. troops stationed overseas during World War II. The voices of some of those soldiers are heard through their letters entwined with the stellar harmonies of Minnesota's most famous sisters. It’s a great way to honor all of America’s veterans and their families.

Andrews Sisters' sweet musical nostalgia

"Ruthie Baker as Patty, Stacey Lindell as Maxene, and Jen Burleigh-Bentz as LaVerne dash through a whopping 36 songs and dance routines that will be familiar to Andrews Sisters' aficionados. The three acquit themselves beautifully, recreating the trio's signature harmonies and infusing the music with wit and energy, particularly in their interpretation of such standards as "Shoo-Shoo Baby" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". They're accompanied by a snappy quartet, led by musical director Raymond Berg in the role of Vic Shoen, the arranger and conductor who worked with the sisters for much of their career."

"Fans of the Andrews Sisters and their music will find plenty to like. Ruthie Baker (as Patty), Stacey Lindell (Maxene) and Jen Burleigh-Bentz (LaVerne) nail the close, sometimes dissonant harmonies for which the sisters were known and do justice to familiar favorites like "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Sleigh Ride." Supported by the able music direction of Raymond Berg (who also portrays band leader Vic Schoen and leads an enthusiastic on-stage quartet), it's a fine, tune-filled evening."
