You've Got A Friend
History Theatre Presents “You've Got A Friend...The Music of Carole King and James Taylor”
Carole King. James Taylor. Two of the most influential singer/songwriters of their time. Who could ask for anything more invigorating and nostalgic?
Join us Saturday, June 17 for a One-Night-Only event at History Theatre - featuring the songs made popular by these dynamic performers who BOTH won separate Grammy Awards for "You've Got a Friend" in 1971. In 1971, Carole King won 4 Grammy Awards – Record, Song, and Album of the Year as well as best female vocalist with her album "Tapestry", which sold over 25 million copies - holding for 25 years as the top-selling album by a female artist. As a 6-time Grammy winner, Taylor's hits span the ages and his laid-back, folksy sound has enlightened us for decades. King and Taylor collaborated many times throughout their long careers, and still do today!
Take a walk-through memory lane as we peruse their extensive catalogs with a full acoustic/electric band led by the featured performers:

Jen Burleigh-Bentz
Local actor/singer/cabaret artist Jen Burleigh-Bentz has performed all over the country - representing MN as a triple cover of Mamma Mia! on Broadway, touring internationally with The Buddy Holly Story, singing on cruise ships, working with Orchestras across the country in Jim Brickman's "Yesterday Once More: A Tribute to Songs Made Popular by the Carpenters"... and she calls St. Paul home. One of Jen's favorite albums of all time is Carole King's Tapestry, and she has enjoyed performing those songs in her cabarets across the Midwest. Currently, Jen has a cabaret on the final Sunday of every month at MetroNome Brewing, in Lowertown St Paul (if you haven't heard of them, you must visit!), and sings with the Star of the North Jazz Orchestra on the 4th Tuesday of every month at Beast BBQ in Northeast Minneapolis. If you are a History Theatre regular, you may have seen Jen in The Defeat of Jesse James, Christmas of Swing, Servants' Christmas, Sisters of Swing, Working Boys' Band, Hormel Girls, or Beyond the Rainbow - where she performed both the role of Judy and Garland. Jen's passion for new works and for history, in general, keeps her head and heart in support of the History Theatre.
Bradley Beahen
Bradley Beahen is excited to be back at the keys with Jen Burleigh-Bentz and the music of Carole King, having recently played the Tapestry rep in concert at the Historic Scott House. Bradley is an actor/singer who has been fortunate to work on stage here at the History Theatre, The Ordway, Chanhassen, Daleko Arts, as well as Off-Broadway and a lovely handful of regional theaters over the years. As an MD he’s worked locally at Lyric Arts, Daleko Arts, Old Log, Chanhassen, and Artistry this summer. The Tapestry album was often the soundtrack to Saturday morning cleaning at his childhood home in Minnesota, so this music holds an incredibly nostalgic and cozy place in his heart.
